Proving Their Love!

In Scotland’s Lammermuir Hills, a young couple, not unlike Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, fight fate and family to be together.  Lucia is tricked by her brother to marry a man she doesn’t love.  Her wedding celebration quickly turns to tragedy.  As with Shakespeare, the remaining lover joins their betrothed the only way they can.  Scott’s epic historical novel depicts a time when women were but pawns in dynastic chess games.  Donizetti’s passionate, bel canto tour-de-force contains two of the operatic literature’s most memorable soprano arias.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles

Music by Gaetano Donizetti, Libretto by Salvadore Cammarano, Based on Sir Walter Scott’s novel The Bride of Lammermoor.

Lucia - Molly Allen
Alisa - Caitlin Ross
