Some of you on campus may or may not be familiar with Recyclemania’s Game Day Challenge. It is a friendly nationwide competition that challenges universities to promote waste reduction at football games. Some of this year’s participating schools are Ohio State University, Arizona State University, Duke and Boston College. In February during basketball season, Catholic University came in first for most recycling per person and 11th in overall diversion in the Game Day Category. Facilities Administration and Services (FAS) is looking to recreate some of that waste reduction magic during football season this year and will be participating in the Game Day Challenge at our tailgating events and game against Emory and Henry on the 24th for Cardinal Weekend.
To reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill during our tailgating festivities FAS is adding organics to capture the food waste created at the tailgate and at the game. There will organic, recycle and trash stations set up throughout Cardinal Stadium and the tailgating areas. We are hoping to have volunteers to help educate our students, alumni guests and visitors on how to properly dispose of waste at the event. We are looking forward to putting our best foot forward to beat Emory and Henry and to win the Game Day Challenge!
