About Dr. Ramachandra Jammi
Ramachandra is currently leading a global evaluation of the World Bank Group’s support for the Water & Sanitation Sector. Prior to that, he was the co-task team leader for the evaluation on Electricity Access. Other evaluations that he has co-authored or contributed to include Off-grid Electrification, Financial Sustainability of Electricity Sectors, Environmental and Social Safeguards, Transport, Extractive Industries, Private Sector Development for Electricity, Investment Climate, and Municipal Management.
During an assignment with the World Bank’s East Asia infrastructure operations department, he co-authored a flagship energy strategy document on electricity access and improved cooking stoves titled “One Goal, Two Paths.”
Prior to IEG, Ramachandra worked as an environment and natural resource economist (consultant) with the World Bank Institute (WBI) where he was involved in organizing diverse policy training events for varied audiences in the areas of environmental economics and development policy, public-private collaboration for environmental management, economic analyses of environmental impacts, as well as on industrial and urban pollution issues. The events have covered countries in south Asia, south-east Asia, and Africa.
Before working with the World Bank, Ramachandra was with the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development in India, working primarily on non-farm sector issues. He also served as a shop floor engineer in a textile machinery factory, provided training services for technical officers of a major public sector bank in India, and worked on market research and techno-economic feasibility studies for industrial clients on behalf of a management consulting firm.
Ramachandra holds a Ph.D in Applied Economics from Clemson University, U.S.A., an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.
